Blossoms of Spring

Blossoms of spring and an Asian
Umbrella gets my heart a flutter
Although our spring has started out wet and cool
beautiful days are coming

Holy Week

Appropriate for both Lent and Good Friday and always I believe:

Fast from judging others; feast on the Christ dwelling in them.
Fast from emphasis on differences; feast on the unity of life.
Fast from apparent darkness; feast on the reality of life.
Fast from thoughts of illness; feast on the healing power of God.
Fast from words that pollute; feast on phrases that purify.
Fast from discontent; feast on gratitude.
Fast from anger; feast on patience.
Fast from pessimism; feast on optimism.
Fast from worry; feast on divine order.
Fast from complaining; feast on appreciation.
Fast from negatives; feast on affirmatives.
Fast from unrelenting pressures; feast on unceasing prayer.
Fast from hostility; feast on non-resistance.
Fast from bitterness; feast on forgiveness.
Fast from self-concern; feast on compassion for others.
Fast from personal anxiety; feast on eternal truth.
Fast from discouragement; feast on hope.
Fast from facts that depress; feast on verities that uplift.
Fast from lethargy; feast on enthusiasm.
Fast from thoughts that weaken; feast on promises that inspire.
Fast from shadows of sorrow; feast on the sunlight of serenity.
Fast from idle gossip; feast on purposeful silence.
Fast from problems that overwhelm; feast on prayer that undergirds.
~ William Arthur Ward

On this Good Friday may we never forget the true meaning of Easter - 'For when He was on the cross, all of us were on His mind.'

We can find no greater proof of God's love for us than the willing sacrifice of his Son on the cross. Jesus' parting words, "It is finished!" express triumph rather than defeat. Jesus bowed his head and gave up his spirit knowing that the strife was now over and the battle was won. Even on the cross Jesus knew the joy of victory. What the Father sent him into the world to do has now been accomplished. Christ offered himself without blemish to God and he put away sin by the sacrifice of himself (see Hebrews 9:24-26).
Augustine of Hippo (430-543 A.D) comments on those who stood at the cross of Jesus:
"As they were looking on, so we too gaze on his wounds as he hangs. We see his blood as he dies. We see the price offered by the redeemer, touch the scars of his resurrection. He bows his head, as if to kiss you. His heart is made bare open, as it were, in love to you. His arms are extended that he may embrace you. His whole body is displayed for your redemption. Ponder how great these things are. Let all this be rightly weighed in your mind: as he was once fixed to the cross in every part of his body for you, so he may now be fixed in every part of your soul." (GMI 248)
In the cross of Christ we see the triumph of Jesus over his enemies - sin, Satan, and death. Christian writers down through the centuries have sung the praises of the Cross of Christ. Paul the Apostle exclaimed, "But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ" (Galatians 6:14).
Hear what Gregory Nazianzen (329-389 AD), an early church father and bishop of Constantinople, wrote about the triumph of Christ's exaltation on the cross :
"Many indeed are the wondrous happenings of that time: God hanging from a cross, the sun made dark and again flaming out; for it was fitting that creation should mourn with its creator. The temple veil rent, blood and water flowing from his side: the one as from a man, the other as from what was above man; the earth shaken, the rocks shattered because of the rock; the dead risen to bear witness to the final and universal resurrection of the dead. The happenings at the sepulcher and after the sepulcher, who can fittingly recount them? Yet no one of them can be compared to the miracle of my salvation. A few drops of blood renew the whole world, and do for all men what the rennet does for the milk: joining us and binding us together. (On the Holy Pasch, Oration 45.1)
Rupert of Deutz (1075-1129), a Benedictine theologian and abbot, wrote:
"The cross of Christ is the door to heaven, the key to paradise, the downfall of the devil, the uplifting of mankind, the consolation of our imprisonment, the prize for our freedom."
The Cross of Christ is the safeguard of our faith, the assurance of our hope, and the throne of love. It is also the sign of God's mercy and the proof of forgiveness. By his cross Jesus Christ has pardoned us and set us free from the tyranny of sin. He paid the price for us when he made atonement for our sins. The way to peace, joy, and righteousness in the kingdom of God and the way to victory over sin and corruption, fear and defeat, despair and death is through the cross of Jesus Christ. ~Reflection on today's readings, John 18:1-19:42 and Isaiah 52:13-53:12

"They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. 'Hail, king of the Jews!' they said. They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again...From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, 'Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?'—which means, 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' ...And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit."
-Matthew 27
On Good Friday every year, we try to stay silent from 12 to 3.

Good Friday, Good Parallels.
Buddha: "Consider others as yourself." Dhammapada 10:1
Jesus: "Do to others as you would have them do to you." Luke 6:31
Buddha: "If you do not tend to one another then who is there to tend to you? Whoever would tend me, he should tend the sick."
Christ: "Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me."
Buddha: "The fault of others is easily perceived, but that of oneself is difficult to perceive; a man winnows his neighbour's faults like chaff, but his own fault he hides, as a cheat hides the bad die from the gambler."
Christ: "Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."
Buddha: "The world gives according to their faith or according to their pleasure: if a man frets about the food and the drink given to others, he will find no rest either by day or by night."
Christ: "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
Buddha: Hatreds do not ever cease in this world by hating, but by love; this is an eternal truth…Overcome anger by love, overcome evil by good. Overcome the misery by giving, overcome the liar by truth.
Jesus: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. From anyone who takes away your coat do not withhold
Even your shirt. Give to everyone who begs from you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again.
Buddha: Lose self to gain nirvana and escape from suffering.
Christ: Lose self to gain Christ and entrance into heaven, where there will be no suffering.

Sometimes holidays feel so out of sync with the realities we are facing. Many today are grieving a loss, or are lonely, discouraged or worried about the challenges ahead. And although traditionally a Christian holiday, Easter is a perfect and beautiful time to remember that we are actually all of the same light. And just as the seasons shift, we are reminded that there will be times for each one of us to share and other times to receive the warm light of hope that every single one of us is meant to have
Not sure who to credit these wise words with but I feel the same way

The year's at the spring
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hillside's dew-pearled;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in His heaven -
All's right with the world!
Robert Browning

To those missing love ones this Easter… Maybe the loss is recent and your grief runs deep or maybe it’s been a very long time and what’s left is a lingering sense of melancholy. But either way, there’s an empty space in your heart that can’t quite be filled no matter how long it’s been or how many other wonderful people are in your life to love and who are loving you back. As you remember, may you feel their eternal presence with you now and in your heart forever.

His whole life was made up of suffering.
From His birth to His death,
from His cradle to the cross,
from the womb to the tomb,
—He was a man of sorrows!
He suffered....
the crown of thorns on His head,
the smiting of His cheeks,
the spitting on His face,
the scourging of His body,
the cross on His back,
the vinegar in His mouth,
the nails in His hands and feet,
the spear in His side,
His crucifixion and death on the cross
—might well astonish us!

Spring is the Queen of all Seasons
and Easter is her crown

All I need to know I learned from the Easter Bunny!
• Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
• Everyone needs a friend who is all ears.
• There’s no such thing as too much candy.
• All work and no play can make you a basket case.
• A cute tail attracts a lot of attention
• Everyone is entitled to a bad hare day.
• Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits.
• Some body parts should be floppy.
• Keep your paws off of other people’s jelly beans.
• Good things come in small, sugar coated packages.
• The grass is always greener in someone else’s basket.
• To show your true colours, you have to come out of the shell.
• The best things in life are still sweet and gooey.
May the joy of this season of new life, new beginnings, lots of chocolate and beautiful blessings be yours . Happy Easter Sunday!

♫♪Happy, Happy Easter Day♫♪

And each flower and herb on Earth's dark breast
rose from the dreams of its wintry rest.~♥~Percy Bysshe Shelley

Because of Him

An empty tomb…a stone rolled away Speak of the Savior who rose Easter Day… But that was centuries and centuries ago, And we ask today, Was it really so? Did He walk on earth and live and die And return to His Father to dwell on high? We were not there to hear or see, But our hopes and dreams of eternity Are all centered on the Easter story When Christ ascended and rose in glory… And life on earth has not been the same,
Regardless of what the skeptics claim… For, after the Lord was crucified, Even the ones who had scoffed and denied Knew that something had taken place That nothing could ever remove or erase… For hope was born in the soul of man, And faith to believe in God’s master plan Stirred in the hearts to dispel doubt and fear, And that faith has grown with each passing year… For the hope of man is the Easter story. For life is robbed of all meaning and glory Unless man knows that he has a goal And a resting place for his searching soul.
