It's expected to be the largest and most powerful typhoon to hit East Asia this summer, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.
The arrival of Typhoon Bolaven , which is expected to hit Korea early next week, has set the Korean government into motion to do what it can to prepare the nation for the storm.
Bolaven originated near Guam early this week and has expanded slowly,.. moving in the direction of Okinawa, Japan.
Korea is on the right side of the storm's dangerous semicircle -- in the half of the cyclone's 450-kilometer radius that has the strongest winds and heaviest seas.
The storm will cover most of the Korean Peninsula with strong winds of up to 160 kilometers per hour and torrential downpours expected to dump approximately 150 millimeters of rain on the southern and central regions of the penninsula.
The intensity of Bolaven is much stronger than that of Typhoons Kompasu or Muifa, which hit the country two years ago and left 6 people dead and many houses damaged.
The Ministry of Public Administration and Security said it will meet with officials from nine administrative bodies and 16 city and provincial governments on Friday afternoon to roll out an action plan.
Bolaven is expected to land on Jeju Island next Monday and spread across the entire peninsula the following day.
