Do you love to read? It loves you back...
• Reading fights stress. A University of Sussex study found that reading was the most effective way to overcome stress. It beats listening to music or sipping a cup of tea. In fact, heart rate and muscle tension tests showed it took volunteers just 6 minutes to relax once they started reading. Researchers say it doesn't matter what you read – getting caught up in a story gives your mind a chance to forget about the stress in your life.
• That stress relief can also help readers fall asleep faster. That’s because it calms an anxious mind, which is a main contributor to insomnia. And if you regularly read before bed, you prime your mind and body to associate reading with relaxation and falling asleep.
