Always we Remember

Thank you to you all
for fighting for our freedoms and continuing to do so.

Perhaps the best way to honor our veterans would be to re-double our efforts to try to prevent any of our nation's young men and women from being sent off to war again. - Roger Wolsey

Words from my Son:

Things I often take for granted: (a) My health, (b) the love I share with "my people", and (c) being born in a nation that has given me so much opportunity to do whatever I aspire to, given the dedication. The latter would never be possible if it weren't for all those brave souls who stood up and put their lives on the line to make the world a better place.‪#‎Iremember‬

Grandmother Love

Brenda and Wendy, my cousins had a soulful Sunday with precious
Grandmother who will be 101 in January.
Brenda brought her the Hungarian scarf and they brought goodies
and Wendy had Hungarian music playing from her phone.
Grandma was so happy and kept saying Budapest Budapest

A Hungarian Blessing
with faith comes love,
With love, peace,
With peace blessings
With blessings God is present
With God present there is no need.

How wonderful a family joined together in love
They then went to visit their Mom
Dear Aunt Pearl who is healing
in the hospital from her fall last week

Blessings for all

Soulful Sunday

Once upon a time, when God had finished making the world, he wanted to leave behind a piece of His own divinity, a spark of His essence, a promise to man of what he could become, with effort. He looked for a place to hide this precious gift because, He explained, what man could find too easily would never be valued by him.
"Then you must hide this gift on the highest mountain peak on earth," said one of His counselors.

God shook His head, "No, for man is an adventuresome creature and he will soon enough learn to climb the highest mountain peaks."

"Hide it then, My Lord, in the depths of the earth."

"I think not," said God. "for man will one day discover that he can dig into the deepest parts of the earth."

"In the middle of the ocean then, God?"

God shook His head. "I've given man a brain, you see, and one day he'll learn to build ships and cross the mightiest oceans."

"Where then, My Lord?" cried His counselors.

God smiled, "I'll hide it where every man and woman will be able to find it if they look sincerely and deeply enough. I'll hide it in their heart, because that's the place where Love resides..."

Heal well dear Aunt Pearl
Love you

Logan helping his Dad cook pancakes
Kiss the cook often and season everything with love

My friend Ann has been participating in an A to Z recipe challenge and asking her facebook peeps to share their recipes for the respective letter every day too. Yesterday was “V for Vanilla” and I was SO surprised that I hardly have any posts on my blog featuring vanilla. I shared my recipe for one of our favorite spicy summer beverages, Horchata, which showcases Mexican vanilla … and I shared my sister Robin’s recipe for Luna salad which is topped with these dreamy vanilla candied almonds. But other than that…I really couldn’t think of any other recipes I could share. What is your favorite recipe featuring vanilla?
This morning my daughter Gracie asked if we could have pancakes for breakfast…and I thought, “Why not add a few teaspoons of vanilla to my favorite buttermilk pancake recipe?” Well, let me just tell you…it revolutionized these pancakes. Light and fluffy and scented with delicious vanilla. mmmmmm…. sooooo good!
3 cups all-purpose flour
3 Tablespoons white sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 scant teaspoon salt
3 cups buttermilk
3 large eggs
1/3 cup melted butter
3 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Mix wet and dry ingredients separately. Heat griddle to medium-high. When the griddle is the right temperature, combine the wet and dry ingredients together just until evenly incorporated. I use a 1/2 cup measuring cup to measure my pancake batter. Pour into griddle. Cook until golden brown on both sides. Serve with butter, powdered sugar and hot, pure maple syrup!

Enjoy!

Growing up in the Fabulous Fifties

Mike's PlaceThe Fifties

Were you a kid in the Fifties or so ?

Everybody makes fun of our childhood!

Comedians joke. Grandkids snicker.

Twenty-something's shudder and say "Eeeew!"

But was our childhood really all that bad?

Judge for yourself:

In 1953 the Canadian population was much less than now.

Yet you knew more people then, and knew them better ...

And that was good.

The average annual salary was under $3,000 .

Yet our parents could put some of it away for a rainy day

and still live a decent life .

And that was good.

A loaf of bread cost about 15 cents ...

But it was safe for a five-year-old to skate

to the store and buy one ...

And that was good.

Prime-Time meant I Love Lucy, Ozzie and Harriet, Gunsmoke and Lassie .

So nobody ever heard of ratings or filters ...

And that was good.

We didn't have air-conditioning ...

So the windows stayed up and half a dozen mothers

ran outside when you fell off your bike.

And that was good.

Your teacher was either Miss Matthews or Mrs. Logan or Mr. Adkins ...

But not Ms Becky or Mr.Dan .

And that was good.

The only hazardous material you knew about .

Was a patch of grassburrs around the light pole at the corner .

And that was good.

You loved to climb into a fresh bed ...

Because sheets were dried on the clothesline ..

And that was good.

People generally lived in the same hometown with their relatives ...

So "child care" meant grandparents or aunts and uncles .

And that was good.

Parents were respected and their rules were law .

Children did not talk back .

and that was good.

TV was in black-and-white ...

But all outdoors was in glorious color ...

And that was certainly good.

Your Dad knew how to adjust everybody's carburetor .

And the Dad next door knew how to adjust all the TV knobs ..

And that was very good.

Your grandma grew snap beans in the back yard .

And chickens behind the garage .

And that was definitely good.

And just when you were about to do something really bad ...

Chances were you'd run into your Dad's high school coach ...

Or the nosy old lady from up the street .

Or your little sister's piano teacher ...

Or somebody from Church .

ALL of whom knew your parents' phone number .

And YOUR first name .

And even THAT was good! ~~~~~

REMEMBER ...

Send this on to someone who can still remember Nancy Drew,

The Hardy Boys, Laurel & Hardy, Abbott & Costello, Sky King,

Little Lulu comics, Brenda Starr, Howdy Doody and The Peanut Gallery,

The Lone Ranger, The Shadow Knows, Nellie Belle, Roy and Dale,

Trigger and Buttermilk as well as the sound of a reel mower on Saturday morning,

and summers filled with bike rides, playing in cowboy land,

playing hide and seek and kick-the-can and Simon Says,

baseball games, amateur shows at the local theater before the Saturday matinee,

bowling and visits to the pool...

and eating Kool-Aid powder with sugar,

and wax lips and bubblegum cigars ..

Didn't that feel good, just to go back and say,

Yeah, I remember that!

And was it really that long ago?
